Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Well, as I’m a Sherlock Holmes fan, you can’t imagine I was going to miss out on the latest offering by Guy Ritchie. When A Game of Shadows came to the theaters, I figured it was best to grab my pipe and my magnifying glass and set off.

What did I find?

Well...

It’s not the same movie as the last one, that’s for sure. The first one did not deviate from the old stories of Holmes as much as people say it did - goes to show what they know. This second one definitely did though.

And honestly? I’m really not sure what to make of it.

Part of me thinks that Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law performed their roles admirably. Part of me thinks that Ritchie misused them horribly. Part of me wants to think that Ritchie’s ambition ought to be praised because he had the guts to try something different. Part of me wants to think that he should have not tampered with it, that he’s put too much of his technique into a story that wasn’t his, that he’s trying to own it.

I just.

I’m really on the fence about this one. I guess if you pushed me I’d say go see it, because it’s a Holmes movie and there aren’t enough of them, truly. But I do still think it could have been better done.

why it really is viewed as an essential addition, it is usually for the function and luxury.
